Type Talks

“Type Talks” are lecture series organized by Professor John De Santis for courses at Pratt Institute
School of Art, Associate Degree Programs.

They are part of the course work for Graphic Design 1-2, Communication Design 1-2
Topics range from Graphic Design, Typography and Communication Design.

Speakers are professionals in design and typography.
Content includes diverse and underrepresented topics in visual communications.
Students create and produce invitations as part of the course work for these events.

This series is now being expanded under a Pratt Institute DEI Research Seed Grant through
The Office of Research and Strategic Partnerships in collaboration with the DEI Subcommittee on Retaining and Supporting Diverse Faculty and Staff

This initiative will develop an information portal with content from past talks and present research generated by the student research assistant.

Type Talks discussion series objectives:

  • Populate the new Type Talk portal with past and future content related to research
  • Increase the scope and frequency of this series.
  • Create a multifaceted and multidisciplinary discussion forum for collaboration and education.
  • Outreach to fellow faculty and students for participants to create collaborative awareness for the AOS program and Pratt community.
  • Plan to open a channel of dialogue between the Pratt community and local, national and global participants.
